How to Reconcile Your Bank Statement in Odoo (17, 18, 19)

By D.B., The Bookkeeper's Desk · October 17, 2026

Bank reconciliation is the most asked question on the Odoo forum, so here is one done start to finish. These steps are from Odoo 19, and they work the same way in 17 and 18.

Which Odoo? This uses the bank reconciliation screen in Odoo Enterprise and Odoo Online. Odoo Community 17 and later doesn't include it. On Community, the usual answer is the free OCA add-on for bank reconciliation.
  1. Open the bank reconciliation

Go to Accounting so the dashboard shows. Your bank's card shows how many statement lines still need matching. Click Reconcile.

  2. Look at the list of bank lines

On the left are the transactions from your bank. Each one needs to be matched to something in Odoo: an invoice, a bill, a payment or an account.

  3. Validate the easy ones

When the amount and the customer line up, Odoo suggests the invoice for you. If it's right, click Validate. Done.

  4. One deposit that pays two invoices

Click the deposit, then add both invoices from the list of open items underneath. The amount left to match should reach zero. Then click Validate.

  5. Lines with no invoice, like a bank fee

Some lines have nothing to match. Pick the account the line belongs to, such as Bank Fees, and click Validate.

  6. Let Odoo fill in the lines that repeat

If the same line shows up every month, go to Accounting > Configuration > Reconciliation Models and make a model for it once. From then on Odoo fills it in for you.

  7. Check the balance

When the list is empty, go back to the dashboard. Check that the balance on your bank's card matches the ending balance on your bank statement. If it matches, you're reconciled.

A line that won't match

That usually means something was entered twice, or entered as a journal entry instead of a payment. Look for a second payment on the same customer or vendor before you force the line to match.

Stuck?

I can fix it

If your Odoo still won't do what this guide says, send me a note with what you're seeing. You'll get an honest read on what it takes to fix, even if that's "you can do this yourself."
